What are the procedures for parking a single engine airplane overnight at an airport with a control tower?

What do I tell the tower or ground controller when I want overnight parking for a general aviation airplane? Do I have to use an FBO or is there other parking for free?

you need to call the fbo you are planning on staying at and confirm a spot for the night, it is usually around $8 a night for a tiedown spot. you do not need to inform the tower you are staying over night, simply state full stop and then clear of the active request taxi to ramp and that is it. not to mention it depends on exactly what type of airport you are flying too and at what time of day, usually the towers at class d airports are closed after 12pm and the airport becomes class e for the remainder of the night.
