How much will my trip to the Philppines cost?

I am planning a trip to Manila next August and I have been looking online at the cost of a round trip plane ticket and it looks like that will cost 43, but i am hopeful that when fuel prices fall, as they usually do in winter, that the ticket will be less. Anyways, I am going with my friend (he is from the Phil’s) and we will be staying at his parents place. I am wondering how much a 21 day trip will cost. Any insight from people who have actually been there would be helpful.

i just returned from the philippines. my ticket was $1800. hotels was $20.-$60.00. transportation is cheap if you have your friend with you. i was there for 16 days and spent $1500.. needed more money. depending on what you do $5000.will be plenty

Since you will be with your friend it will cost you a lot less. My guess is about $1,000 + Plane ticket if you don’t travel around much. If you travel around much then I would bring about $5,000 with me.

Well Tom. I’ve been there. I live here. I love it here.
Let me ask you one. How much would you take to a poker game ? If you aren’t serious probably not much. If you are a gamer there isn’t enough.
A vacation is much the same once the transportation and room is paid for.
How much do you want to spend.
Some would be happy with eating money. Some want to buy gifts.
Some won’t the bar scene and should stay home. Money goes through them like grain through a goose.
Set a budget. Things are cheaper here but what is your consumption.
I would come with less than a thousand a week and hope to take some home. You may see it different. High or middle road you will have fun.
BTW try not to carry cash. Plastic and ATMS is the way here.
All of us foreigners do it.

Manila is a fun place to be.Lots to do and money will be a big factor. It all depends on what kind of person you are and how much fun you like to have. Since your staying with your mate accomodation won’t be a problem but don’t forget that since you’ll be staying at his place you’ll probably have to shout afew meals for his entire fam as a courtesy. Also don’t forget night for when hotel rooms will be needed if you catch my drift.

I’ll give you some examples of what things cost there so you have an idea.
-Big Mac Meal 2.50 odd dollars
-Bottle of general hard spirits 15 or so
-Hotel room for two 50 bucks

Suffice to say alot of things are cheaper there but when one is on holiday logic tends to go out the window when your having a good time. If your a really crazy night life girl chasing drinking type then I would bring in all honesty 6 grand. If your the just want to see the sights and fairly reserved type then I would bring 4 grand. In any case have extra funds available incase you have to much fun. Sticking to a budget isn’t that easy when your there. Don’t believe me,then wait till your on the ground.

I personally make a list and estimated budget then I add afew g’s on top to ensure my options are more open. Hit me up if you need any specific info on Manila. I go there quiet alot for the crazy fun side of things.

What part of the US are you?
There are 2 ways that I can tell you to get a cheap rate.
But if you have a frequent flyers account with Northwest or other airlines, that would be perfect for you.

First go with your Filipino friend to a Filipino Grocery store like Seafood City. Grab one of the free Filipino news papers like http://www.asianjournal.com/
They have an ads there of round trip tickets to manila sometimes as low as $500-700 with out tax. However my trip this year to Manila cost me $740.00 with tax, under Northwest Airlines.
The people doing those ads are Filipino Travel Agents and its better to deal with them.

Next go to http://www.vayama.com they really have great online deals. However what I would do, is that compare the rate with that of the travel agent.
often the Travel Agent will be willing to get you a "special " rate

Most of the $500.00 round trip by the way (especially if you are flying from California) have stop overs in countries like Korea or Taiwan so just to let ou know, cheaper rate comes with a longr travel time.

I like Northwest becuase they stopover in Japan for only 2 hours and their airport is like a resort ( massage areas, great shops, sleeping areas and showers )

Why I suggest you do an agent is becuase you can do sometimes half and half on payment depending on what airlines. Like half cash, half card.

Then they can tell you ( and you have to ask) like if there will be baggage fees, terminal fee’s

By the way once you get to the Philippines you need to pay P750.00 (pesos) Terminal fee. I forgot if thats upon arrival or leaving.
Buying a ticket this early also wll mean you can get a cheaper deal

Things you need to remember when going to the Philippines

    1. Power outlets there are 220V so make sure if your’e bringing a laptop or other electronics that they are power compatible, or else they will get fried

    2. Month of August is rainy season in the Philippines. best time to really go there is March-April when its summer. if you plan to go there during the rainy season, make sure to bring shoes that doesn’t get easily worn out in muddy puddles and such

    3. First time going there? You can use your dredit card in most department stores there and withdraw cash from most bank ATM’s as long as you are Visa or master card.
But just in case upon arriving have at least $10.00 Money exchanged in the the Money Changer at the airport

    4. You can stay up to 30 days In the Philippines on tourist vacation, speak with a travel agent for more inquiries about the Luggage fee and limits, they vary by airlines and class you will use

    5. Travel light, clothes are cheap in the Philippines, most likely you are bringing more stuff back than you are bringing there

    6. if you need to give "gifts" to kids there, just go to Walmart or Sams club and buy the chocolates. Kids love them there

If you have any questions especially if your destination is manila PM me

I am flying out in a couple of days to manilla from Palm SPrings,CA. My ticket was 750 complete. Check bt-store.com. or philippine airlines. they both have good rates but the philippine air had the best.
