I want to swim off a pound a week, how many laps do I need to swim do this? How long will this take since I’m just an average swimmer speed wise.

This is a difficult question to answer, as everyone’s endurance levels are different. Being an average swimmer, one hundred laps a day might make you very sore. Keep in mind that 36 laps equals a mile in many pools.

My advice would be to set a time limit. Thirty minutes is a good one. Try and get your heart rate up. Also, mix up your workouts. One day, do an all out endurance, no stop swim. See how far you can go in a time limit. Another day, swim two laps at a time faster with rest in between.

There are many websites online that give wonderful workouts based on your skill level, stroke, and goals. One of my favorite is swimmer’s world.

Look at those. There is a guide to tell you what level of mastery you are at. For example, swimming a mile in under thirty minutes would put you at master level 2.

I wish you the best of luck. Swimming in a wonderful workout and great for overall health and weight loss too. It is also easy on your joints. I hope you enjoy the workouts!

it matters how big the pool you swim at is. A pound a day is maybe 2-4 laps in a medium pool. But if you get tired easy just do 1 or 2 and take a break and if you feel you want to do more, do more..

    I am a swimmer.

I usually swim 100 laps a day and I lose like 5 pounds every three days.

It MAY be too much for you but you can do it. You can do either 5 laps (per pound lost) each day.

5 laps= 1 pound lost. BUT DONT EAT RIGHT AFTER YOU SWIM. drink a lot of water. You can eat but something healthy like a fruit.

For me, nothing works (I’m not even trying to lose weight :P)
No matter how much I swim in one workout, I’ve never lost weight.
I swim about 5000 yards each workout and sometimes even up to 10,000. But no matter what, I don’t lose weight. Instead I gain. I’m guessing its probably muscle. But I don’t think there’s really a way to lose weight by swimming unless you are over obese. But to answer your question, my guess would have to be, 6 days a week 3 hours a day
