What are the hand signals catchers in baseball use to tell the pitcher what pitch to use?

I was watching a baseball game and I saw the catcher use some hand signals I think to signal the pitcher on what pitch to use but I am not completely sure. So, can you tell me if I am right about the signaling the pitcher and if so what the signals mean.
