How to get a good sound out of the trumpet without blowing SO hard?

When I blow it, I feel the need to blow REALLY hard and then I run out of air. When I try to blow less air or not so hard, it sounds like just air. I don’t know what to do. I just need some advice on how to blow or buzz or whatever you call it. Sorry if I sound stupid :)

okay, so let’s start with the good. so many players are afraid to blow and miss notes. you are the opposite, you are blowing hard and hoping for the best. this is IDEAL. any teacher would rather have a student that blows hard and plays without fear…you will go further faster than a timid student who doesn’t put air through the instrument.

you need to learn to control your breathing. try breathing exercises. a good exercise is to take a walk around the block and do the following:

for five steps, breath in through your nose
for five steps, hold your breath in
for five steps, breath out through your mouth,
for five steps, hold your breath out

repeat. KEEP YOUR CHEST UP THE WHOLE TIME — this is incredibly important.

when you are playing, you should sit up straight with your chest up and shoulders back (not up) at all times.

sorry if my answer seemed off topic, but trust me it isn’t. once you learn to control your air, you’ll be able to play at any volume that you want to.
