How do you remove the safety piece in ipod ear buds?

I over heard my friend that did this at school and his ear phone volume can now be alot louder. How do i remove or break this?
It wasnt a friend really, someone I heard about. So asking them is out of the question. Anyone know?

Ask your friend how he removed the volume safety piece to make the volume louder. Better ask him quickly though, he may not be able to hear you in a couple of months!
