How long does it take to install a fundamental toilet/commode?

I am too busy to replace a commode in one of my bathroom`s and I`m thinking about asking a neighbor of mine to do this for me. He`s not a professional but I know that he could use a little extra cash.
So, how long does it take? How much should I offer him to install it?

Hello, I have a plumbing business and set at least 3,000 toilets. Find a lic. plumber for $100.00 to set your toilet. #1. he knows what he is doing. #2. what if the flange is broke ( thats what holds the toilet). #3. I just did a job that the home owner insurance would not cover the damage from a toilet that was not installed by a lic. plumber or the home owner. #4 The plumber has to have insurance and be bonded. #5. if something does happen it makes for an unhappy friendship.

    around 2 hrs max
    offer him $20

A plumber would probably charge you $150 so I think that $50-75 would be reasonable for a handyman, toilets have an incredible knack for taking more time than you think. Make sure you get a new wax ring and closet bolts with your new toilet.

The guy that would do it for $20.00 is crazy or lives in Sri Lanka.

About 15 minutes from start to finish.

If you supply all the correct parts and nothing needs to be cut, spliced or soldered and the stop valve works, and he takes the old one away and cleans up, $50 is fair enough. For just the basic work, $25 seems fair.

You are doing him a favor by having him do something you could likely do yourself. It is easy work. But considering what you would pay a plumber the numbers above are reasonable.

These answers are ridiculous. First of all why do you think that a handyman would only charge about half of what a plumber would. Maybe he would not charge as much as a plumber but he has a family to support just like anybody else. I would really like to see anyone tear out the old toilet and replace it in 15 minutes. Apparently none of the "guestimators" have ever actually done this. In this case of it being your neighbor, then maybe $50 to $75 would be in the ball park. I don’t think you will find anyone that has ever done it accepting any less, unless they are really needing money and you don’t mind taking advantage of their situation.

I would be able to replace a toilet in 1 hour or less if I have all the right items in front of me, (if they have never done it before allow 2 hours):
    *new wax ring
    *new commode
*teflon tape (for water hose connections)
*scraper , paper towels, plastic bag, to remove old wax ring (never reuse a ring, make sure you get the right thickness also)
    *adjustable wrench
I am not a professional, just a homeowner
