How long did it take for your belly button piercing to heal?

I had my belly button pierced around 6 weeks ago - its not healing yet but I have read all over the net that it can take 9-12 months and even as long as 2 years to heal… How long did yours take to heal? How did you look after it? I put Saline on a cotton bud and clean with this twice a day - I have read a lot about a product called Ocean Spray (I think thats what its called) but its not available here in Australia - I have had people suggest Peroxide but I believe that can thin the skin and promote migration so dont want to go there… Also how long did you stay out of the water - Id like to go swimming at the gym but I believe it should heal first…
I have several other piercings so basically know how to look after them but they have all pretty much healed by this time so Im curious as to how long it took for other people’s belly piercing to heal.
Thanks for the answers so far.. I dont think its infected - for a while I thought it might be and had some antibiotics from another time (still in date) and they didnt change anything - there is a discharge but its a white colour and the pierced area is a little red but not sore.
I have a banana barbell jewellery in I have very senstive skin to metals so always have piercings done with Titanium (not titanium coated) and my body really seems to prefer this.

wow!! what does it look like?? its not infected is it?? try some neosporin!! thats what i used!! and mine didn’t take very long to heal!! maybe a couple of weeks!! if its pussing…..its infected!!! but maybe that part of your body is really sensitive…….so don’t worry!! but try the neosporin!! it will definately prevent infections, and take care of it (if it is) : )
time will tell, don’t rush it or anything!! : )

ps……..oh and i found that the barbell shape jewelry works best in belly piercings!! the cute dangly ones break very easily!! just fyi…… : )
It usually takes between 6 months- 1 years to heal , i use bactine spray on mine , you shouldn’t go swimming for about 2 months after its pierced .
if it hurts go to the Doctor it took mine 4 months and i went swimming after a week i just put some peroxide and a cream on it and it healed email me at princess123mezz@yahoo.com if u want to no the cream
it definitely shouldn’t take more than 6 months to heal. mine healed within 4 weeks. i’m assuming you still have a red ring around your piercing..? DO NOT USE PEROXIDE OR NEOSPORIN. different people react differently, and my friend suggested neosporin to another friend and her belly got infected right away. i would go to the piercer and ask him/her what she thinks of your healing process, and ask what she recommends you put on it.
and you are okay to go swimming as long as it’s not infected or bleeding. i wouldn’t worry about it not healing yet. give it more time.
