I’ve always liked pastries, especially donuts, but i don’t know how to make one. Can someone please help me figure out how to make a batch from scratch? And also if you know how to make some frosting to go on top of it i would really appreciate it.
It can be any shaped donut.

    Ingredients for Doughnuts

    * 4 cups flour
    * 1½ teaspoons salt
    * 1¾ teaspoons soda
    * 1¾ teaspoons cream of tartar
    * ¼ teaspoon grated nutmeg
    * ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
    * ½ tablespoon butter
    * 1 cup sugar
    * 1 cup sour milk
    * 1 egg

    Instructions

    1. Put flour in shallow pan; add salt, soda, cream of tartar, and spices.
    2. Work in butter with tips of fingers; add sugar, egg well beaten, and sour milk.
    3. Stir thoroughly and toss on board thickly dredged with flour; knead slightly, using more flour if necessary.
    4. Pat and roll out to one-fourth inch thickness; shape, fry, and drain.
    5. Sour-milk doughnuts may be turned as soon as they come to top of fat, and frequently afterwards.

    This is as homemade as I get but man are they good.

    1 can of cheap biscuits
    biscuit cutter
    oil
    sugar and cinnamon

    Heat your oil to about med-hi, take the biscuits out of the container, cut a hole in the middle w/ the cutter or a glass, drop in oil til golden brown, about 1-2 min. per side, remove and drop in sugar mix. Yummy and very fast.

    Not only is this an easy recipe, it is also seasonal! Cranberry Doughnuts http://betterthanordinary.blogspot.com/2009/11/my-new-favorite-may-be-yours-too.html

    Jump on line and look up recipes for sweet bread or rolls. If you want super easy & fast, use refrigerator sweet rolls. Roll the dough out on a lightly floured board, and cut with a round cutter or the top of a glass, or roll into small 1 inch round balls. Fry in a few inches of hot oil, they cook fast so turn with a slotted metal spoon, remove from oil when lightly browned all sides. Drain/ cool on a few layers of paper towel. The icing is powdered sugar with milk added a teaspoon at a time until it is the consistency to drizzle. or sprinkle with powdered sugar, or sugar and Cinnamon mixed.
    Happy Cooking!
