I was laid-off recently and would like to know how long the Series 6 and 63 are good without a holding firm? Also, any insight on how long I can carry my PA Life Ins License without a firm?

Regarding your Series 6/63, When your sponsor firm files your U5 with FINRA your registrations become "inactive." If you affiliate with another FINRA firm within 2 years, these can be reactivated. However, if 2 years pass, the 6/63 would actually expire and you would be required to re-qualify (retest) if you want to get back into the industry.

Your insurance license is a little different. You do not need a sponsor firm to maintain an active insurance license and the actual requirements can vary from state to state. In Florida, for example, your license is perpetual. However, it will expire if you go for 48 months without having an appointment with an insurance company.

Those licenses have a four-expiration, from the date you passed the exams. Until you can find another firm, they just sit in suspense.
