How do people get bruises on the back of their upper legs?

As a guy, I look at women wearing short shorts/skirts, especially when their back is turned to me. I started noticing something this summer, occasionally I’d see a woman with one or more small to medium (usually smallish) bruises on the back of their legs.
How do people get bruises in this region on the back of their legs above the knee but below the butt? It seems disturbingly common…

soccer, maybe. sports. I get bruises about there, a lot from soccer.
i think that is just when they are sitting. With there skin visible and unprotected by clothing, by sitting on something can leave an imprint of bruise looking thing on the back of one’s leg.

From sitting for a long time in chairs. They could have bumped their back leg into a table it happens.
