How does the ‘my photos’ screensaver that displays random pictures work?

On windows, there is a ‘my photos’ option for the screen saver, that randomly shows pictures you have on your computer. How does that work? How do they make it "pick" pictures to show randomly?

If you check your preferences, it will show which picture it picks from. Pretty much the computer assigns each image to a number and uses a random number generator with a few other specifications and displays it with a transition. Hope this helps.

I’ve made own version of a screensaver which displayed random photographs from a folder you can specify on your computer. I made it for a couple of reasons, the main ones are that the default Windows screensaver showed all files and folders which have the system attribute hidden. I organise my digital pictures in such a way that I keep all my pictures, but hide the ones I don’t like. I also missed being able to see the filenames of my photographs. This screensaver solved all my problems.
