How much should I tip a hot air balloon pilot?

My husband and I are taking a hot air balloon ride and we don’t know how much to tip the pilot. It would be hard enough if we were paying him, but it turns out that he donated this flight to a charity and we were the highest bidders in a silent auction. The flight is worth 0. How much should be tip him to make it worth his while? Anyone know how much fuel costs? Thanks in advance!

He’ll probably buy 30+ gallons of propane at about $1.30 (wholesale price) to refill after your flight. I’m sure he would appreciate $40.00 bucks.
