jaws’ theme builds tension as it replaces the shark with an ominous piece of famliar music to make the film audience think he’s near in the scene. music can build tension. I studied this in my final year of uni. The term to describe this recurring piece of music which is Jaw’s theme is called a leitmotif… – ‘ a motif or theme associated throughout a music drama with a particular person, situation, or idea.’ (dictionary.com)
here’s a really good website that helped me in uni which is all about film sound: http://www.filmsound.org
and here is a page below about the leitmotif also known as character or sound motif
I have not seen the movie in a while, but I definitely know that you could use the shark as a character, and well it’s pretty obvious how it put tension on the audience. Sorry for the lack of help, good luck!
