Wii Sports is not Wi-Fi compatible. Other games that you can play online are Battalion Wars 2, Quantum of Solace, Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games (only for the leaderboards).

The thing is that Wii Sports (If you mean the original!) hasn’t got online. Games like Grand Slam Tennis and Quantum of Solace do. If you look at the game box, it will have the Nintendo Wi-Fi logo if it has online.
Once you are online, you may or may not need to add each other as friends for that particular game. Like with some EA sports games, you can connect to friends on the game, using the same friend code as for the message board. However, each game, and each individual disc, has it’s own friend code. You will need to register your friends code (and they yours), before you can play each other. Then, when you are both on, you should be able to play each other. *Phew*
