I am looking for some background on this horrible genocide. Who was in charge? Why did they want to kill the Kurds? What tactics did they use? What were their motives?
Also, it would be great if you directed me to sources or a good documentary.

Chemical ali (Ali Hassan al-Majid) was in charge of the operation to use chemical on Kurdish people under Saddam Hussein’s order. They wanted to eliminate Kurdish people in Iraq so that Iraqi Arabs can conquer the land and resources (oil) which belong to Kurdish people. on March 16, 1988 chemical ali dropped bomb with chemical on town of Halabja killing thousands and leaving the remaining injured with toxic chemicals side effect.
Kurdish people live in north Iraq (Kurdistan) but yet never gained independence from Arabs, Turks, Syrian, and Iran. Saddam Hussein thought it would be easier to kill all Kurdish people rather through peace which Kurdish people were asking for. Saddam invaded Kirkuk city and kicked Kurds out of it then moved Arabs there, however Kurdish people were resisting the fight. Kurdish soldier (peshmerga) where fight back to support Kurdish people not to take what wasn’t theirs.
