So I am hoping to become a video game designer as my career in life. I am currently a sophomore in High School. I would like to know what colleges are the best. What classes I need to succeed in to become a video game designer. And what are some good small jobs to do before I leave High School that would look good on the college application. And any other information that would be good so I can succeed in this career.
THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH!

1st - "graphic arts designer" - if i had to guess i’d say you meant "graphic design" but I know you don’t so don’t say that anymore. if you say that to a counselor or someone they’ll be totally sure you wanna be a graphic designer. which is not the same thing.
2nd - i actually don’t know the term for it either. and i’m not exactly sure what you mean. do you wanna know all that computer stuff about making games (programmer?) or do you wanna just design it like by making drawings and stuff of characters and backgrounds (i don’t know what they call that lol)? I’m going to assume you mean the second one.
3rd - You need to succeed in art classes (if we assume you mean the second thinger majigger. also the first one i guess) Learn to draw. Carry a sketchbook and draw what you see. Don’t make stuff up and expect it to look good until you’ve drawn from real life first.
4th - google is your friend.
5th - the only school I know of that is really great is SCAD - Savannah College of Art and Design. I’ve heard it’s really great and I know they have quite specific courses of study that are all about video games and animation and whatnot. I’ve also heard it’s pretty sucky, but I’ve never been. Also SAIC (school of the art institute of chicago) is a pretty good one, I’ve heard.
6th - they don’t care so much about jobs on an art school application so much as your portfolio - so that’s why the sketch book is useful as are art classes. You need to have something to show them when you’re applying.
