I just don’t understand how you can eat fat and lose weight?? Like eating cheese, bacon, sausage, hamburger meat, oils? I mean how is that healthy.

In short: eating a lot of fats and no carbs can make you lose weight because your body needs the carbs to digest the fat. However, no, it is absolutely not healthy, and in the long run, the weight you lose will come back.
What you describe sounds like an "Atkinsons" diet, and some other diet doctors (Eades, Sears, and Heller) and celebrities (Suzanne Somers) are advocating their own low-carb high-fat variations.
During the first two weeks on this diet your weight loss can be very fast, since much of it is water. In addition, your body will burn its own fat. Actually, you burn fat all the time, but without carbohydrates your body does not burn the fat completely, and thus substances called ketones are formed and released into your bloodstream. This condition, called ketosis, makes dieting easier, because it often depresses appetite and may cause nausea. Dr. Atkins considers this state normal, even "benign." Ketosis is indeed the body’s way to adapt to this abnormal situation, as it would to fasting. But ketosis poses potential dangers (see below).
If you stay on the Atkins diet for a few weeks, with the proper supplements, it can be safe. You may have adverse effects though: dehydration, dizziness, constipation, weakness, and headaches. If you remain on the diet very long, even its maintenance phase, you face more serious risks:
• Any diet very high in saturated fat is likely to boost blood cholesterol. (However, in the early stages of the diet, you actually may not consume more fat than usual, since you eat less food.) In addition, ketosis may damage LDL ("bad") cholesterol, making it more likely to stick to artery walls and increasing the risk of a heart attack.
• Also, ketosis will increase blood levels of uric acid—a risk factor for gout and kidney stones in susceptible people.
• High-protein diets in general can lead to calcium loss from the body, possibly decreasing bone density and increasing the risk of osteoporosis. This risk is greater if the diet is low in fruits and vegetables, which supply nutrients essential for bone health.
• You can’t get the vitamins, minerals, and fiber you need on this diet, so Dr. Atkins recommends supplements—preferably the "formulas" he markets. But no matter how many pills you take, you won’t get the fiber and the array of protective phytochemicals found only in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, and may not get all the vitamins and minerals you need.
If you follow the Atkins diet, you will lose weight—but it will be dangerous for your health! Moreover, as with all crash diets, keeping the weight off is the hard part. Virtually all crash dieters eventually gain the weight back, unless they learn the basics of healthy eating, which crash diets do not teach.
where the fuck did you hear that……………………………………………
eating fat does not make you lose weight. that is the stupidest thing ive ever even heard
What in the world?
That’s one of the most backwards diet programs I’ve ever heard. If you want to lose fat, don’t be eating fat. Isn’t that common sense?
I don’t think it is the fats that they are promoting, it is the protein in the meats and the calcium in dairy. And please do not listen to the Acai Berry gimicks, it’s just another weight loss scam. Just work on a healthy diet and a good exercise program that works for you, and that you can fit into your lifestyle.
Yea…thats called false information lol those are the things you need to stay far away from.
read Atkins diet book or go to the site…it has to do with forcing the body into ketosis…it really works great BUT most people gain very fast and more after going off Atkins…me guess is because they missed the carb stuff so much and were making up for all that they "missed" while on the Atkins.
You can fuel the body with calories from carbs OR fats (or both). If you don’t fuel the body with calories from carbs you MUST fuel the body with fat. You never want to fuel the body with protein because the process of converting it to fuel creates nitrogen & ammonia & can be dangerous in large quantities. Fat & protein is healthy and will regenerate the body. Fat without carbs is completely benign. All the faulty studies done that blame fats should have blamed carbs for poor health NOT the fats.
You can lose more body fat eating protein & fat (don’t eat protein alone) than not eating AT ALL. To lose weight fast, eat all you want, but nothing but meat, eggs, healthy oils, mayo, butter & half an avocado a day (for added potassium). Keep the calories high & the fat percentage high, at least 65% of calories. Green vegetables & some cheese will continue weight loss but at a slower pace.
The first 2 weeks eat several cups a day of (mostly) lettuce & celery, cucumbers, radishes, mushrooms, peppers & more variety of vegetables thereafter - add 5 grams per day additional every week (20 grams day first 2 weeks, 25grams 3rd week, 30grams 4th week etc) til you gain weight, then subtract 10grams. That will be your personal carb level (everyone is different & depends on how active you are.)
Start with meat, fats & salads for 2 weeks and then slowly add in more green veg, wk4 fresh cheeses, wk5 nuts & seeds, wk6 berries, wk7 legumes, wk8 other fruits, wk9 starchy veg, wk10 whole grains. You will learn how your body reacts to different foods.
The first week is just water weight but fat is lost thereafter if you keep your calories high enough. Otherwise the body will strip it’s own lean tissue for nutrition. Although that may look great on a scale it will make it MUCH easier to accumulate fat in the future (since all that pesky lean tissue burning up calories will be gone). The body won’t release fat stores if you lower calories below what it needs. It will slow metabolism to compensate & store every spare ounce as fat. If you continue lowering calories, it will continue lowering the set point, til it can survive off nothing & store fat on anything. The body will only release it’s fat stores if it knows there is plenty of nutritious food.
Eating carbs while trying to lose body fat is terribly inefficient. When in glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) you have to lower your calories (which slows your metabolism) & exercise heavily to deplete your glycogen stores before burning body fat.
The core of Atkins program is converting the body from glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) to ketosis (burning fat as fuel). Dietary fat levels need to be at >65% of total calories, if not, the body will still remain in glycolysis by converting 58% of excess protein into glucose (via gluconeogenesis).
It takes minimum of 3 days to convert a body to ketosis, (but only one bite to convert back to glycolysis). People feel sluggish the first week but most feel better than ever thereafter.
Simple carbohydrates (sugar, flour, bread, cereal, pasta, potatoes, rice) trigger insulin which can store the calories eaten into fat. The more protein the more the fat burning hormone glucagon is released. The more carbohydrate the more the fat storage hormone insulin is released.
Simple carbs are addictive & can be disastrous to health. The best way to break the addiction is NO carbs for 3 days. Make a huge batch of deviled eggs, eat one every time you want "something" - have huge omelets with bacon, sausage, peppers, mushrooms & cheese. Pork chops smothered with peppers, mushrooms & cheese - pork rinds & dip or tuna/chicken/turkey/egg salad - steaks - a huge sugar free cheese cake. Eat so much you won’t feel deprived of anything. By the 4th day, the addiction will be gone & you can start making healthy choices.
High insulin levels promote inflammation, weight gain, hunger & unbalance other hormones. Controlling insulin levels will balance out other hormones & allow human growth hormone (HGH) to be produced naturally so lean muscle will be gained even without exercise. Any exercise will greatly increase muscle mass with high HGH levels.
Ground flax seed (2 Tbsp) 1/4 cup water, artificial sweetener, mix in a raw egg - let sit 10 min. to absorb liquid, put some cream cheese in the middle & nuke 2 minutes. Suggested for daily fiber needs.
As long as you have <9grams carbs per hour, you will maintain insulin control & shouldn’t gain weight, no matter the calories. Many people gain weight on high carb, do low carb to lose weight & then are shocked when they return to high carb & gain weight. Many people can return to moderate carb levels but very few can really eat all they want of sugar & maintain weight or health.
OK im asuming your talking about atkins
and the whole thing is, you eat the fat but it just comes right back out (gross i know, sry) because it doesn’t have anything to "stick to" which is the carbs
When you don’t eat carbs your body stops burning carbs for energy and starts burning fat it’s called ketosis when your body switches to doing that
It shouldn’t work but it does when i was 11 i lost 15 lbs on atkins and ive gained it back BUT i’ve also grown like 6 inches. It really works i promise!
