Honestly i think thats racist. How come we dont call the white people european Americans? We just call them Americans. Haha thats pretty mest up.
I mean black people have been in this country just as long as the white people.
white bread. Know ur history without black people this country would b crap. But without white people this country wouldve also sucked. But together their more powerful. Think about it from equiano to MARTIN LUTHER KING
African Americans, Black Americans, Black People, Crap, Equiano, European Americans, History People, Martin Luther King, Mean People, White Bread, White People

Because the world remains close minded and unexpanded
in the horzion,it’s a label that mankind created, it can be avoided but that’s up to the world
I know huh…?
Because it is politically correct.
cause it sounds better than saying Africans….
NOT ALL BLACKS ARE AFRICAN AMERICANS. Edit@ Jo lisa stop speaking out of your a s s. My ancestor did not come to America on a slave ship so I’m not African American. I’m afro carribean smart one.
you dont you call black people born in america with slave descent african american
wow
thats actually so true i’ve never thought about it that way! ur right, its actually so sad. i think its because they dont know what to call us because they dont want to sound racist and i guess they think of american as"white" i mean black people were slaves in the us. the least you can do is call the new "black" generation AMERICAN
luv ali
u made a great point!
”NOT ALL BLACKS ARE AFRICAN AMERICANS”
Then what could they be? African asians? everyone who is living in the USA and is black is an african american
Erm, My friend is FROM jamaica which is from the Carribean, and guess where they came from?? AFRICA!
We are American, but just how some Americans wll say they are Irish or German, we are African American
because we are unsure of where in Africa we come from but we know its Africa that we come from AND we have been in America for so long and many of us are very mixed SO
we are AFRICAN AMERICAN
and that’s ONLY for slave descendants. Other blacks in America come from COUNTRIES like Nigeria, Ghana or even Haiti or Jamaica. Africa is a CONTINENT
there is a difference between the blacks and us african americans..
Blacks dont know what part of africa they come from so they’re black….
but an african american (such as me) know what part of africa they come from such as for instance I come from Ghana…
i hate when people do that….they mix blacks with african americans, it’s annoying, cause they stereotype blacks, and think also african americans…it pisses me off
we call whites irish american etc
we dont know what country the african americans ancestors are from, thus they are called afican american
Because America is not a race, it’s just a nationality, you stupid American.
exactly!
It’s a politically correct term for black people. The politically correct term for white people is Caucasian. I don’t know why this politically correct terms were invented in the first place.
Haha you know you have a good point there. Think of it this way, it’s better to me (yes i’m black) to be called african american (even though i have indian and scottish blood also) then what blacks used to be called-such as slave, negro, or the other "n" word i refuse to say.
While we’re on this kind of subject, why do you call white people white? white people aren’t white! and black people aren’t black! haha, just to add to the confusion…=p
Why does everyone forget the Asian people…? Just a thought. If they are called "African-Americans," I think it would only be fair to call people like me "European-Americans." Paper is white. Styrofoam is white. My skin is not perfectly white any more than most of their skin is pitch black. Really, if every other race must be "Chinese-American," "Native-American," "African-American," etc, why not "white" people, "European Americans," at least when they are Americans? I think we need to drop all the "(race)-American" titles actually. Really, we’re all equal, therefore it doesn’t matter. How does your descending from someone in Africa make you any different, that you should be singled out? Skin doesn’t matter, nor does hair, nor do eyes. If you’re an American, you’re an American, and I thing that should be the end of it. Unless you are doing research to see if people of different races have different tenancies for health problems or something to help with medical conditions (such as this race tending to be allergic to this medication, but not that), I don’t think that race should be asked in any surveys or anything, because it really doesn’t matter.
Well you know white people always want to act like they are more American than anybody else when blacks are actually the ones who have been here usually longer. You usually hear whites talking about their great grandfather coming over. You rarely hear that about black people. I really think if we are talking about who originated here we should talk about Native Americans because they are the only ones who really originated here.
I am of Jamaican, white, chinese, and as i recently found out, native american descent (obviously mostly Jamaican), however I still feel that the term AFRICAN-American applies to me. I prefer being referred to as black american though.
I am not African American, but I call them African Americans than black because I think it is sort of racist for people to say black because they really aren’t black! I really hate it when people say the "n" word, but my African American friends think its ok for people to say black but not the "n" word!
We call people what they want to be called, and no, it’s not racist.
If they want to be called African-American, when referring to their race, that’s fine. Most white people don’t want to be called European American, but some do like to be called "Irish-American" or "Italian-American". Maybe if more blacks in the U.S. knew which country they came from in Africa, they’d follow the trend.
However, I’ve found that overwhelmingly, most people, regardless of what race, color, creed, religion, sexual preference, or whatever it is that they are, preferred to be primarily called by their first name (what a shock). John, Jane, Mary, Mike, etc….that’s what they want to be called, ’cause that’s their name. And when either me or they are referred to in a conversation, all of us want our names to be used, rather than some PC term which tells people our historical ethnicity, since not too many people care about that to begin with.
My Co-Worker is Amy. She is African-American, she is American, and she is black. But first and foremost, she is Amy. And that’s how she sees herself as well.
