How do you get rid of the dank smell of the hoover filter that’s got wet by mistake?

I sucked up some water with my Dyson by mistake and a couple of days later, the filter smells like feet! Any suggestions as to how to fix it?

wash the filter and let it air dry.

You may have to buy a new one? I would definitely wash it out and let it air dry. Maybe even spray a little febreeze on it as it dries. My vacuum seems to have a musty smell so before I vacuum I tilt the vacuum back and turn it on and spray an air freshner at the base of it, this sucks up the smell and blows it out of the vacuum while I am vacuuming, so theres no musty smell and actually helps freshen the house and the carpets.

Hot water and vinegar worked for mine. squeezed it to let the vinegar soak in, then let it soak for 20-30 minutes. wring out as much moisture as you can. then let dry in an open warm area completely(at least 24 hours) before returning it to your vacuum.

Worked for me when I accidentally vacuumed up doggy pee. I then purchased a second filter at best buy and keep one clean and ready for replacement every 3-4 months. works like a charm.

Most dust is old dry dead skin cells.
The fine stuff is trapped in that filter is rotting.
That’s the ‘feet’ smell. - (I know, - Ew, yukkk!)
If it’s a fiber filter, you can wash it out with a mild bleach solution,
but it might be better to just replace it.
Those particular bacteria, fungi , and their spores
have got to be unhealthy to spread around.
