What is more important for animals: survival or reproduction?

I’m leaning towards reproduction because I see that a lot of animals will essentially die for the chance to pass on their genes. They’re willing to engage in very risky behavior if it means that they might be able to mate. What about humans, what do they place greater emphasize on?

    surviving to reproduce

it doesn’t need to reproduce more than once (but it would be a good thing)
and it only needs to survive long enough to do so
