How many interviews are there in an interview process?

I’ve never had a job before, so I know little about how the job search process works. I used to think that there would only be one interview, but I’m hearing about second and third interviews? How many are there and why are there so many?

In a small, small company, usually one interview is sufficient. In a medium size and large company/corporation, usually 2 interviews, sometimes, three. The first interview is to introduce to the company, judge your appearance, your willingness to work/learn, and your general knowledge, and your ability to communicate. Everything else in that interview is just ‘fluff’. If the want you to come back for the 2nd interview, it means that they’re interested in you. The 2nd interview is designed to Judge your knowledge of the company & it’s service/products, and your understanding working in a corporate environment. If you’re asked to come back for a 3rd & final interview, it means that they’re really, really interested in you. The 3rd interview is designed to judge where you might be interested in working within the company. If they have a position available within their company that interest you, you’re in! If they don’t have a position within the area you are interested in, they might suggest an alternate position within the company. That’s good. Because it indicates that they really want you. If they do make that suggestion, think about it for a minute or two and they accept it. Don’t worry about weather that position is or is not right for you. If they suggested it, it means that they feel that you would do well. And they make that decision based upon the information gathered from the 3 interviews. Good Luck.

SOme companies have just one and some have multiples, usually with different managers. There is no set number.

Most of the time, there is only 1 but there may be 2 probably because they are really interested to hire you but misplaced one of your documents that requires you to get hired (like a resume or an application) and want you to come in for a second interview. I’ve never heard of anybody having a third though.
