sorry, but i disagree with ketra completely. it’s all about how it fits your horse, THEN you. if a saddle fits you beautifully but only sorta fits your horse, sorry. can’t use the saddle. you’ll have some major issues if the saddle doesn’t fit the horse. pinching shoulders, hard on the back, etc. if you want a horse who’s in pain, or a horse who bucks, go ahead and get a saddle that doesn’t fit it.
oh, and isn’t directly aimed at you, i’m just saying hypothetically lol.

you don’t measure in the typical way i’m sure you’re thinking (with a tape measure). you have to know what you’re looking for, and it can be hard to tell if you don’t have an eye for it. i would get out a professional saddle fitter or an experienced horse person (like a trainer) who’s done it before. they’ll know what they’re looking for and they can explain to you in person. it’s very hard to say what’s wrong and right online, you sort of have to be there.

It’s more that you get one that fits you, then you check that it fits the horse. And if it’s really close or you’re not sure, you call a saddle fitter who specializes in it. Your comfort matters too. If you get uncomfortable riding you can’t be helping your horse any.

I agree with lyla.. there isn’t a way you can specifically measure your horse to see if the saddle will fit, its more of a try it on and go from there. It’s sorta hard to explain online, I’d suggest having someone who is experianced with saddle fitting come out and help you find a good saddle. I know the tack store around here lets you bring your horse and try them on there so you can make sure to get one that will fit well, and I think that’s a really good idea, cause you can ride around and see how it feels for you and make sure that it is comforable for your horse. As I’m sure you know, a correct fit is really important. I also agree with lyla that fitting the horse is most important, then fitting you.
