How can I get a tight ring off my finger, without ruining it if possible?

I’ve tried everything! Canola oil, virgin olive oil, vegatable oil, butter, crisco, water and soap, plain water, lotion, and even an all natural solution that my mom uses to clean!!! How do I get a tight fitting ring off of my finger? (My ring finger) If it has to be ruined I guess that would be ok, but i would MUCH rather prefer it not getting destroyed because my mother gave it to me.

I learned this from a nurse when my father was in the hospital and incapacitated - we had to pull his wedding band off because his hands swelled up to twice their size.

Get yourself some string (preferably a thick yarn). Squeeze one end of that string beneath the ring (even if you have to shove it under using a needle or similar). Wrap the remaining string all the way down the finger, tightly - to the point of being sore and possibly turning colors. Grab the end of the string that is under the ring and pull towards the end of your finger, pulling the ring with it as it unwinds.

I’ve had to do this several times in the past few years and for several friends and have never found a better way to do it. Works like a charm, but occasionally takes a couple of tries in order to get the right tension on the string to unwind from your finger properly.

ice youre finger and then try the lotions and soaps again. becuase youve been pulling at and the ring is tight im sure your finger is swollen, icing it will decrease the swelling and help you get it off. good luck!

    doesn’t peanut butter work?

ooh wait. never mind. maybe that’s for gum in your hair or something like that. hmm…. okay. try just lotion. and keep on twisting and twisting and twisting and twisting. i promise that it will come off!!! good luck! =]

Try butter and slip it under the ring if you can and twist.

lotion should work. just put bundles of it on. if it ruins the ring, get alcohol wipes [or wet ones] and clean it off. it will be as good as new

Wait a little bit so your finger won’t get swollen. Then, use dishwasher detergent and put it all over your finger and the ring. Start twisting it and then put it under water and keep twisting and loosening it. Then it will hopefully come off..GOOD LUCK!!

Ice your finger - and as much of your hand as possible. whenever my hands are cold my rings start to turn on their own. run it under cold water and then use dish soap. should do the trick

  • Casey says:

Ice your finger and keep your hand over your head for at least 10 minutes (to get the blood out of the area and decrease swelling). Then try Vasoline. Turn the ring sideways so the top is facing the inside of your fingers while you’re trying to pull it off. Good luck!

  • Dr Melissa says:

Have you tried vaseline?? You should try to lube up your finger in vaseline. IF not you need it cut off. But, it wont be ruined if a jeweler does it, and they can fix it.
