How much would it cost for an electrician to install ethernet in my house?

I have a house built in 1954. I would like to have an ethernet cable run from one room in my house to another (both are exterior walls). The rooms are roughly 150 feet apart, with an attic directly above each.

I understand how it might be difficult to give an accurate estimate, but, any guesses on how much this would cost?

If you can do it by yourself it would be much cheaper. If you don’t know how to put the connector in both ends of the wire just lay an open end cat5 cable from one room to another room then when your done laying you can hire a guy that can do the crimping of the RJ45 connector. that would be much cheaper. Buy a cat5 cable then lay it by yourself. You can do it. That is your house and you know where to lay the cable….good luck…jexter@eastern.com.ph

As the cable only carries very low voltage, it should only need protecting against damage from pets and feet, so installing it shouldn’t be such a big trouble. You need Cat 5 cable (ask at any electricians merchant) and as you need quite a long length they may cut it too length for you.
Install it yourself in small sticky back mini trunking, or go under a floor if you can.
Another way would be too clip it around the skirting at the edge of the carpet.
Then just get an engineer to fit the plugs on the ends. Shouldn’t charge more than $70.
