How valuable is a vet internship and/or research experience when applying to vet school?

We have to write a paper on the career we want, and i want to be a vet. How valuable is it to have an internship and/or research experience before applying to vet school?

Vet school admission is highly competitive, so I would think anything that could give you an edge would be good to have.
