I am 16 years old and got caught shoplifting. I am sorry for what I did but all I can do now is grow from this experience. The total of what I got caught shoplifting was .46. This is my first offense, my record is clean. I made a STUPID mistake and am VERY sorry. I wanted to know what are some consequences, both short and long term, that I can face.
The cops were not called, I was released to my mom. And the store where this happened was Macy’s.
And this happened in California.

Well, I’ve stolen before more than you did, but I didnt get caught. I did get caught however with a friend (who is 16) for stealing about $3. It too was a first offense (as in first time caught). If the police werent called it probably isn’t on your criminal record. They probably banned you from the store. Esp if you signed the barred document. You may still get fined for shoplifting, thats all
Next time, be more conspicuous if you are gonna do it (which you shouldn’t once you get caught its a wake up call).
Also you are a minor so they can’t sue you directly, even though they may make you pay some fine.
Also I’m 14 and my friend is 16, we didnt really face consequnces due to the mercy of the loss protection, but you may not be so lucky.
