How do you make lightsaber effects on a video?

I’ll be making a Star Wars parody and I wanted to know how, in the video-editing process, how to make lightsaber effects (glowing colored blade). I’ll probably be able to make the sound effects. Also, what would be a good video-editing software to do this?

    Try:

It takes a LONG TIME to render light saber effects. Let me crunch some numbers for you:

Assuming you have a 30 second parody, that’s:

    30 seconds * (30 Frames / second ) = 900 frames.

Assuming you can render 1 frame every minute, that’s 900 minutes or 15 continuous hours of mindless rendering!!!!

go to Youtube.com and look up. Adobe AfterEffects. That is how I made mine. You can get a trial that will give you plenty of time to finish the video
